#1 Jakub Vrana

Jakub Vrana has been the Caps most red hot player of late and he is the number one player to watch tonight. He had two goals the other night against the New Jersey Devils including the game winning goal in overtime. Vrana has five goals over his last six games and 18 points this season with 10 goals and eight assists. Vrana’s 10 goals are tied for the team lead with Nicklas Backstrom.

All 10 of Vrana’s goals have come at even strength, which is tied for the fifth most even strength goals in the NHL this season. Vrana is one of five players this season to have at least 10 goals and have none of them occur on the power play. His 15:05 time on ice per game is the lowest in the NHL among players with at least 18 points.

This brings up another issue. Why doesn’t Vrana get much playing time or at least get a few looks on the power play? If he’s putting up those kinds of numbers the team has nothing to lose.

Vrana is tied for fourth in the NHL in even strength goals since the start of the 2019-20 season with 34. He trails only Auston Matthews (47 goals), Alex Ovechkin (41) and David Pastrnak (35).
