#2 Nicklas Backstrom

Nicklas Backstrom scored 28 seconds into the third period to give the Caps a 3-0 lead. He went hard in the paint literally. After getting a pass from John Carlson behind the net, he dished the puck to Jakub Vrana along the boards. Backstrom shifted spots to right in front of the net and Vrana placed a perfect pass right there for Backstrom to bang it home.

Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin are tied for the team lead with 12 goals on the season. With a goal as well as an assist on the Ovechkin goal, Backstrom has tied Henrik Zetterberg’s 960 career points for the sixth most career points in the NHL by a Swedish born player.

No Caps win is complete without Backstrom and Ovechkin shining for the boys in red. Backstrom has been off to a hot start this season and after a down year last year he has already tied his goal scoring total from last season, doing so in less games.

Can Backstrom keep up his scoring pace and even lead the great eight when all is said and done about the 2021 season? We can’t wait to find out. That is already two players and now there’s just one more.
