It has been a hard Washington Capitals season for all of us. I’m not talking about the record. The Caps are actually decent this year. Washington is 28-11-4, good for 60 points and first place in the MassMutual East Division. There’s just been one problem… there hasn’t been any fans at home games to show for it.
The Caps and Monumental Sports provided a quick solution to this problem thanks to virtual gameday. With this feature which you can use for Caps and Wizards games, it brings the arena experience right to your living room.

Once you enter the virtual gameday at 6 p.m. it feels like you’re right inside the arena. They have the Rinkisde Update and the Two Man Advantage as well as Caps Countdown with special pregame features based on the promotion or theme of that night. Recently the Caps had Pride Night and Hockey Fights Cancer night.
You can also watch pregame warmups in it’s entirety or warmies as we call it. Once the warmups end and we watch the Two Man Advantage, Bob McDonald and Caleb Green sing the National Anthem and we get ready for the game ahead.
But when the puck drops the action in virtual gameday doesn’t stop there. During gameplay you can hear the beautiful voice of John Walton and the radio broadcast. During TV timeouts there’s in game entertainment including the shell shuffle where you got to find a puck under the Greene Turtle shells.
In the third period they do a special Unleash the Fury that features Caps fans reciting the video rocking the red from home. We wish we could Unleash the Fury from the arena but we can as soon as April 27 when the Caps host the Islanders. In the meantime, I hope the Caps felt it when we did it from home.
Tonight might be the last virtual gameday unless the Caps continue it for those fans unlucky enough to get tickets. We should be thankful the Caps gave us this opportunity to interact with other fans and have that experience like we’re taking in a game.

At the next home game fans will be welcomed back. It will be a glorious night and it’ll be a reminder of how far we’ve come. This pandemic was hard for all of us but we’re almost there.
Fans will be allowed at games for the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs. It’ll be awesome finally being back at Capital One Arena.
