The Washington Capitals offseason has just begun and before things get really crazy let’s look back on the season that was. Those that have read our articles at Stars and Sticks over the last two years know we like to evaluate and grade each player after the season.

Before we get to individual player by player, we thought we could give you a preview of who could get the high grades or the low grades. So first, let’s do the high grades by looking at the top three studs.

#3 Daniel Sprong

I love this kid. I wasn’t sure about him at first when we traded him but Christian Djoos simply wasn’t working out. Djoos had injury issues, a bad contract and lost significant ice time to Jonas Siegenthaler who ironically also isn’t here anymore.

Although Daniel Sprong wasn’t in the lineup nightly, when he was in he produced and became a fan favorite. When he was scratched including in some crucial playoff games, fans were quick to voice their displeasure on Caps twitter.

In 42 games, Sprong scored 13 goals and added seven assists for 20 points. It was the second most goals he scored only trailing one for his career high. With the Seattle expansion draft looming, Sprong is one of those folks I’d protect.
