Things ended badly for the Washington Capitals in 2021 and now we are in the middle of an offseason full of questions. Despite some big changes coming up in the foreseeable future, there are still reasons for Caps fans to be optimistic and hopeful for the future. We will take a look at those here.

The Caps will likely be a different team next season but there is no way they are going to completely blow it up unless the worst case scenario happens and Alex Ovechkin doesn’t re-sign here. Then I could see the window closing. But right now it’s still open.

#3 Prospects ready for action

The Caps aren’t the best ranked when it comes to prospects and it’s likely because of their run of late first round picks in recent memory. Still they have at least been able to draft smart and the organization hopes some prospects can take the leap next year.

Will we see more Connor McMichael next season in NHL action after he tore it up in the AHL? What about defensemen Martin Fehervary and Alex Alexeyev? We’ll likely see youth on the defense with Zdeno Chara likely to retire. As for forwards, it depends if a trade happens or not.
