The Washington Capitals offseason is going to really start heating up at the middle of the week and towards the end. On Wednesday we find out who the Seattle Kraken will take from them based on who the Caps left exposed. On Saturday, the Caps will be participating in the NHL Draft with their first pick coming in the second round at 55th overall.

We started looking at who the Caps could target with their 55th pick. Here’s more information on the NHL Draft as well as the complete first round order. In this slideshow we’ll take a look at who we think the Caps will select with their five picks.

#55 Tristan Broz

Tristian Broz is a center from the USHL out of Fargo listed at six foot and 176 pounds. He is expected to attend college this upcoming season at the University of Minnesota. Elite Prospects compared him to a shark which I think is as cool of a comparison as you can get:

Broz is a player with an attacking mentality. He’s like a shark sniffing out blood in the water when he’s off-the-puck in the offensive zone, circling the perimeter, waiting for soft ice to emerge, or charging headlong to the net-front as low-to-high passing plays develop. He reads developing plays, creates options for his linemates, and adapts well during cycle plays.

#75 Jackson Blake

In the third round at 75th overall the Capitals will select Jackson Blake who’s a right winger from Eden Prairie High School in the US. The Caps acquired this pick from the New Jersey Devils via the Arizona Coyotes in the Jonas Siegenthaler trade.

Elite Prospects had this to say about Blake:

A better player in-tight than in open-ice, Blake combines his puck-handling and playmaking to great effect. In-tight, he adjusts his puck positioning to hook and slip passes through pressure, and dekes through defenders without entering a glide. He pre-scans before every touch, then creativity connects with teammates through defenders, leads them into space with area passes, and works give-and-goes.

#119 Kalle Vaisanen

In the fourth round at 119th overall, the Capitals will select Kalle Vaisanen who’s a left winger from TPS in Finland. He recorded 30 points in 27 games last season with nine goals and 21 assists. He’s got a good height at six foot four and 181 pounds. He’s expected to join TPS’ Liiga league next season.

Here’s what Elite Prospects said about Vaisanen:

Brings a decent amount of physicality, Väisänen is primarily an effective playmaker with decent skill and speed.

That is three draft picks and now there are two more.

#151 Lukas Pajer

With the 151st overall pick coming in the fifth round, the Capitals will select Lukas Pajer. He is a right winger from Litomerice in the Czech Republic in the Czech 2 league. He is listed at five foot 10 and 176 pounds. Last season in the Czech U20 for HK Hradec Kralove he scored seven points in five games with four goals and three assists.

He then went on a loan to HC Stadioun Litomerice in the Czech 2 league where he recorded seven points in 12 games with three goals and four assists. He is the last forward the Caps will select based on our projections.

#183 Cameron Rowe

In the sixth round at 183rd overall, the Caps will use their last pick on Cameron Rowe who’s a goaltender from Wisconsin in the highly competitive Big 10. He is listed as six foot three and 212 pounds. Last season for the University of Wisconsin he went 9-2-1 in 16 games with a 2.05 goals against average and a .933 save percentage.

In the previous season he was with the Des Moines Buccaneers of the USHL and played in 33 games. He went 14-16-1 with a 3.52 goals against average and a .899 save percentage.
