Washington Capitals: Breaking down 2021 Training Camp roster

The Washington Capitals have announced their Training Camp roster. Players will report to MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Wednesday for physicals which is closed to fans and media. On Thursday, players will hit the ice for the first day of Training Camp. Thursday will also mark media day and the first time we hear from select players this season as well as head coach Peter Laviolette.

This will mark the Capitals 15th training camp at their headquarters in Arlington. All on ice sessions will be free and open to the public, just don’t forget your mask. The Caps training camp roster will be split into two groups. It is composed of 30 forwards, 18 defensemen, and six goalies. Schedules will vary.

Training camp will last 20 days with the NHL regular season beginning on Tuesday Oct. 12. The Capitals will open the season against the New York Rangers on Oct. 13 at 7:30 p.m. The following is the schedule of the first seven days of Capitals training camp. We’ll get to Group A and Group B rosters in a second.

Tuesday September 23: Group A 9:30 a.m., Group B 11:50 a.m.

Friday September 24: Group A 9:30 a.m., Group B 11:30 a.m.

Saturday September 25: Group B 9:30 a.m., Group A 11:30 a.m.

Sunday September 26: Non Game Group 9 a.m., Game vs. Boston Bruins at Capital One Arena 5 p.m.

Monday September 27: Group A 9:30 a.m., Group B 11:30 a.m.

Tuesday September 28: Group B 9:30 a.m., Group A 11:30 a.m.

On Thursday Laviolette, General Manager Brian MacLellan and the following players will be talking to the media. From Group A: Nicklas Backstrom, Lars Eller, Conor Sheary, Trevor Van Riemsdyk, and Tom Wilson. From Group B: John Carlson, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Dmitry Orlov, T.J. Oshie, Alex Ovechkin.

First up, Group A: Pheonix Copley, Justin Schultz, Michal Kempny, Daniel Sprong, Nicklas Backstrom, Lars Eller, Connor McMichael, Dylan McIlrath, Hendrix Lapierre, Hunter Shepard, Garrett Pilon, Vitek Vanecek, Martin Fehervary, Tom Wilson, Beck Malenstyn, Brett Leason, Dru Krebs, Matt Irwin, Bear Hughes, Trevor Van Riemsdyk, Martin Has, Shane Gersich, Brian Pinho, Riley Sutter, Conor Sheary, Eddie Wittchow, Joe Snively.
