The Washington Capitals hit the road to take on the New Jersey Devils for their first away contest of the season. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. and thankfully this one is on TV. After Evgeny Kuznetsov recorded three points the other night with two goals and an assist, he needs just three to pass Kevin Hatcher for 13th on the Capitals franchise points list (426).

Last season the Caps won all eight of their contests against the Devils. It was the first time in franchise history the Caps beat an opponent eight times in one season and just the 13th time since the expansion era. It was also the first time since the 2007-08 Montreal Canadiens did it eight times against the Boston Bruins. The Caps outscored the Devils 32-19 last season.

The Caps did not hold a morning skate today but here were the lines and pairs from Wednesday’s practice before the team departed for New Jersey, via Tarik El-Bashir of The Athletic:

Connor McMichel made his season debut on Tuesday night and played 9:45. He had two shots on net and won three of seven face offs while also drawing a penalty. Head coach Peter Laviolette had this to say about the 2019 first rounder:

"“He played a really smart game, a strong game, they controlled a lot of the play out there, possession of the puck and they did some good things. He got better as the game went on, too.”"
