The Washington Capitals are back home for a Saturday afternoon matinee with the Calgary Flames. With a 3-0-1 record, the Caps look to continue to stay hot. This is their first game with the Flames since Nov. 3, 2019 which resulted in a 4-2 win. Evgeny Kuznetsov is one point shy of passing Kevin Hatcher (426 points) for 13th on the team’s franchise points list.

Kuznetsov had a goal on Thursday night in New Jersey and has eight points through the first four games with three goals and five assists. That is tied with Alex Ovechkin (four goals and four assists) for the team lead. Ovechkin has 10 points with three goals and seven assists in his last 10 games against Calgary and 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 19 career games against the Flames.

Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette spoke to the media this morning before the game. Connor McMichael will stay in the lineup on the third line. Vitek Vanecek will get the start in goal. He’s been phenomenal all season. Laviolette also updated the media on Nicklas Backstrom, who’s been skating on his own. He’s eligible to return on Nov. 6 when the Caps take on the Philadelphia Flyers.
