It’s that time of year again: Late Night Caps! The Washington Capitals are set to begin a back to back and then another back to back four game west coast road trip. The first stop will be in Anaheim against the Ducks. Get your coffee ready as the road tour continues with stops in Los Angeles, San Jose, and brand new Seattle.

The Caps started the month cold but have since been red hot with four wins in a row as they enter this four game road trip. The winning streak began on Nov. 8 against the Buffalo Sabres and during this stretch, the Caps have outscored their opponents 17-7 including 6-1 on Sunday night against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Tonight marks the first time the Caps have played the Ducks since Dec. 6, 2019 which was a 3-2 win at the Honda Center. The Caps have won eight of their last 13 games against the Ducks and have earned a point in 12 of their last 18 games against Anaheim, posting an 11-6-1 record.

Alex Ovechkin has earned 26 points with 12 goals and 14 assists in 20 career games against Anaheim ad the Caps have posted a 10-4-0 record against the Ducks in games when Ovechkin earns a point.

Ovechkin was named the NHL’s First Star of the Week yesterday which marked the second time this season he has been named one of the NHL’s top 3 Stars of the Week. He was named Second Star on Oct. 16.

During the Caps four game winning streak, Ovechkin recorded eight points with two goals and six assists and on Sunday against the Penguins recorded two assists to mark his 382nd career multi point game.

Four of the Caps six goals came at five one five and through games played Nov. 14, the Caps rank first in five on five goals with 40. Over the last four games, Washington has had 11 different goal scorers. The Caps are allowing 26.7 shots per game which is the second lowest rate in the NHL. The Seattle Kraken, who the Caps see on Sunday night, allows 26.1 shots per game.

The Caps 25.75 scoring chances allowed per game is the sixth lowest rate in the NHL this season through games played Nov. 14. The Caps last visited California from Dec. 3 to Dec. 6, 2019 where they swept all three games against San Jose, Los Angeles and Anaheim. The Caps outscored the California teams by a combined 11 to 5.
