The Washington Capitals fought but once again couldn’t overcome the overtime jinx as they snapped their four game winning streak. The Anaheim Ducks, believe it or not, are on a roll and extend their winning streak to eight games.

The Ducks struck first on a goal from Cam Fowler at 3:32. The Caps thought they evened it on a strike from Nick Jensen but once again Jensen had a goal robbed as the Caps were offsides. 1-0 was the score after the opening period with the Ducks leading 11-8.

The second period was scoreless as the Ducks led in shots 11-6. The third period was where all the action happened.

The Caps outshot the Ducks 14-7 in that period. At 5:36 Garrett Pilon was down low and got a great look on his first NHL goal right in front. Martin Fehervary and John Carlson had the helpers.

The Ducks retook the lead at the 10 minute mark from Trevor Zegras. At 17:28 Tom Wilson deflected in a shot from Carlson while Fehervary had the secondary assist. The game would head to overtime.

Caps head coach Peter Laviolette talked about the third period comeback:

"“The third period was really good. We stepped on the gas. We made a couple of adjustments…got it down into the offensive zone easier and generated a lot of offense. Ended up getting it to overtime and then losing. It’s just frustrating.”"

At 4:14 Zegras ended it. It was the Caps fifth overtime loss. Vitek Vanecek finished the game with 28 saves. Shots were even at two in overtime. Vanecek’s save percentage came out to .903. The Caps had zero power plays while the penalty kill killed the one penalty they had.

Laviolette talked about the overtime woes:

"“We’re trying to do things the right way out there. We talk about it, we go through it. At the end of the day, they get one vs. two, they took a step and put it in the back of the net.”"
