The Washington Capitals conclude the California portion of their four game road trip in Nor Cal and are opening another set of back to back games. Tonight it’s the San Jose Sharks. Tomorrow it’s the brand new Seattle Kraken.
Tonight marks the first time the Caps have played the Sharks since Jan. 5, 2020, which resulted in an epic comeback in a 5-4 overtime win at Capital One Arena. The Caps have earned points in six straight games against San Jose, dating bak to Dec. 4, 2017, outscoring the Sharks 27-15 in that stretch.
The Caps held a practice yesterday at the Sharks facility. T.J. Oshie, who’s recovering from a foot injury, was still walking in a boot but was on the ice in a red jersey. Nic Dowd was also on the ice in a normal jersey.
There was a scare, however, as Daniel Sprong hobbled off the ice favoring his right leg. He returned to the ice skating on his own while talking to a trainer before rejoining the drills.
Caps head coach Peter Laviolette said after practice that it’s a good sign that Sprong returned to practice. He also noted that Oshie and Dowd as possibilities to the lineup after being full go on Friday.
John Carlson is on a three game point and assist streak with five assists. Alex Ovechkin is tied for second in the NHL in goals with 12 while ranking third in points with 26 through games played Nov. 18. Evgeny Kuznetsov is tied for fifth in points with 20 and ranks fifth in assists with 15.
