The Washington Capitals west coast road trip concludes with their first visit to the NHL’s newest franchise, the Seattle Kraken. Vitek Vanecek gets the start against his former team and gets to visit his old stomping grounds, a place he made home for about a week before the Caps traded back for him.

The Caps made a slight roster move. Brett Leason was recalled while Garrett Pilon was reassigned to Hershey. Caps head Coach Peter Laviolette said, “We’re working through some things in the room.” There was no morning skate with the Caps on the second leg of a back to back. They are 2-0-0 in the second game of back to backs.

They’ll look to end the west coast trip on a high note. The Kraken were hyped up before the season and for good reason. It’s great that Seattle gets a hockey team after losing their basketball team over a decade ago. They got off to a slow start though so it’s not quite the Cinderella start that Vegas had.

The Kraken are 4-12-1 and are led in goal by former Capital Philipp Grubauer. Acquiring him in free agency allowed them to trade Vanecek back to the Caps so thank you Kraken. Grubauer has won all four games posting a 4-8-1 record with a 3.27 goals against average and an .875 save percentage.

Update: Right before we hit publish on this article the Caps announced that T.J. Oshie will not play tonight and is day to day with a lower body injury.
