The Washington Capitals have had a new team dog this season named Biscuit and just like his predecessor, Capitan, he’s become an instant hit among the players, team, and fans. But you don’t even have to take my word for it. The other day, ESPN ranked all the NHL team dogs and they rightfully put Biscuit at the top.

Here’s what the verbiage from ESPN said about Biscuit in their team dog rankings:

"Biscuit truly has it all: good looks, a killer hockey name (“biscuit” being a nickname for the puck) and a strong start when it comes to team dog antics. Biscuit has been dishing out kisses, running on the ice, pumping iron, touring monuments, meeting his predecessor Captain and tweeting up a storm. We think Biscuit has a bright future in this league, and we can’t wait to see what he’ll do next."

Being a Capitals fan for almost two decades now, I know everybody. I’ve met numerous players but not even meeting Alex Ovechkin would compare to a moment of meeting the team dog. I sadly never got that chance with Captain but it would be cool to run into Biscuit at the arena sometime.

You can follow Biscuit on Twitter and Instagram @CapsPup and if you haven’t already and are about to press that follow button you are going to thank us.

The Caps held a toy drive before their game against the Chicago Blackhawks and fans that brought a new, unwrapped toy to donate received a Biscuit poster. Imagine having that greatness on your wall next your Ovechkin poster. Even the pooch himself brought a toy and it was the cutest thing.

Biscuit is also featured in the Caps Canine calendar which is finally back. We’ll have a separate article later today or tomorrow detailing more about this fantastic holiday gift that is sure to brighten any Caps fan young or old. The proceeds benefit Wolf Trap Animal Rescue and the MSE Foundation.

As you can imagine Biscuit was all over the last couple holidays. Leading up to Halloween, Biscuit was dressed in several different costumes over the course of seven days. For Thanksgiving he wasn’t afraid to eat like the rest of us.

After the success of Captain, fans wondered if the Caps would keep the tradition alive. It looks like the brand new tradition of having a team dog is here to stay and that is a very good thing. Maybe other sports will adopt this, literally.
