The Washington Capitals continue their four game homestand with a Monday night matchup with the Anaheim Ducks. It’s their second and final meeting of the season. The Caps dropped the first matchup in overtime 3-2 on Nov. 16 at the Honda Center. The Caps are looking to avenge that loss and continue to protect their house.

The team is 8-1-4 at Capital One Arena this season and are one of four NHL teams with just one regulation loss at home. The Caps have won eight of their last 14 games against the Ducks and have earned a point in 13 of their last 19 games against Anaheim with an 11-6-2 record.

The Caps are coming off a 3-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. Aliaksei Protas scored his second goal of his career and Alex Ovechkin notched his 750th. Garnet Hathaway capped it off with the empty net goal while Ilya Samsonov made timely saves.

The last time the Ducks and Caps met in D.C. was on Nov. 8, 2019 in a 5-2 Capitals win. Washington is 10-2-2 in their last 14 games while outscoring their opponents by a combined In their winning effort against Columbus, they held the Blue Jackets to just 18 shots which was the lowest they’ve allowed all season. They also had no penalty kills to worry about.

Instead though the team has plenty to worry about. As if the injuries weren’t bad enough, some players seem to have come in contact with COVID-19. This started after they faced the Carolina Hurricanes when two players there tested positive. Now the latest to go on COVID protocol is Garnet Hathaway, the team just announced prior to their morning skate. He joins Nic Dowd and Trevor van Riemsdyk.

Here’s hoping if there’s testing more results come back negative. It would stink to have to cancel some games like some teams are already dealing with. As of this writing, however, tonight’s game is still on. Here’s how to watch and bet on it (if you’re into that stuff).
