#1 The drive of the Great Eight

Alex Ovechkin has been on a tear since the start of the season. Proving pundits and skeptics wrong by continuing to defy Father Time. From two goals against the Rangers at the start of the season, to two goals on New Years Eve, Ovechkin hasn’t looked back and the Caps need that momentum from the second half of 2021 from Ovechkin carried into 2022.

Ovechkin has 24 goals and 26 assists this season for 50 points in just 33 games. He has 754 goals in his career. He has 275 on the power play, the golden goal coming on the first tally the other night in Detroit to set him all alone with the all time power play goals record. Of course, the Great Eight has bigger goals in mind.

Believe it or not though, as hot as Ovi has been this season, he had not scored a power play goal since Dec. 15. But it also isn’t surprising considering how bad the team’s power play is. Caps Coach Peter Laviolette said this to Tom Gulitti of NHL.com:

"“When you’re sitting there on the brink for a long time, you know, one game, two games, three games, I’m sure you’re anxious just to get it done. It’s not like it wasn’t going to happen. It was going to happen, but it’s nice just to get it done and then move forward from there. But quite an accomplishment. Dave’s (Andreychuk) been around a long time with a lot of great players, and to be a part of that history is something special.”"

Those are the 3 things I’d like to see the Caps take from 2021 and carry over into 2022. What would you like to see carried over?
