The Washington Capitals have had a weird January but this week they have somewhat of a normal schedule with games every other day. First up is the Winnipeg Jets at Capital One Arena where the Caps will look to bounce back from a home loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday.

Tonight is the second and final matchup of the season between these two teams. The Caps won the most recent matchup 5-2 on Dec. 17, 2021 at Canada Life Centre. The Caps have won each of their last eight home games against the Jets, a streak that began on April 13, 2013 where they outscored Winnipeg 32-18 during that stretch.

Alex Ovechkin has the most goals (49), games played (68), assists (44) and points (93) against the Winnipeg Jets/Atlanta Thrashers franchise, the most among active players.

The Caps held a morning skate today at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. We looked forward to the homecoming of defenseman Brenden Dillon but we’ll have to wait as he’s in COVID protocol. On the Caps side of things John Carlson got added COVID protocol joining Conor Sheary before their game Sunday while T.J. Oshie missed morning skate with an upper body injury. Here were the lines via Samantha Pell of The Washington Post:

Capitals Coach Peter Laviolette said that Oshie is day to day. He also noted that Vitek Vanecek will get the start in goal tonight after a 23 save shutout on Saturday afternoon at the New York Islanders.
