Last night’s 1-0 Washington Capitals loss to the Vegas Golden Knights was ruff. But one silver lining was all the puppy content we got to see whether we watched the game at home or at Capital One Arena. It was more than just a Biscuit love fest as many puppies who are available for adoption through the Wolf Trap Animal Rescue were showcased.
The boys arrived tonight with some special guests for #CapsCaninesNight!

And even better, each one of these dogs is available for adoption through @WTARescue at https://t.co/iMWYnblKrC by applying and submitting a meet & greet request for the pup you're interested in!

Each player walked in with a puppy that deserves a loving new home. The Caps named the puppies in honor of Bob Saget’s passing. Tom Wilson was with Mary Kate and Marla, Alex Ovechkin with Raising Dad, Evgeny Kuznetsov with Michelle Tanner, Vitek Vanecek with Madagascar, Lars Eller with Marla, and Conor Sheary with Saget. Saget even met our old pal Andrew Gillis of NBC Sports Washington in the press box at first intermission.
well the caps didn't score on that 5-on-3 but everyone say hi to Saget pic.twitter.com/bbwIIS1DhQ

During the pregame skate, there were cardboard cutouts of each of the players dogs including Blake Ovechkin and Halle Wilson.

The players even did a series of videos where they answered questions like what their dogs nickname is and if they could ask any of their dogs a question, what would they be?

The Caps also hosted some special military guests from America’s Vet Dogs before the National Anthem. Bob McDonald took it away.
As part of our @Boeing “Hero Welcome” for #CapsCaninesNight, we are proud to welcome these six veterans and their @AmericasVetDogs service dogs to tonight’s game.

Fans who purchased a ticket to the game through a special link received a Caps Canines tee shirt as well as a bandana for their dogs. The night was sponsored by the Pedigree Foundation which specializes in helping dogs find their homes.
This was the first time the Caps did such a promotion and something I have no doubt they’ll continue in the seasons to come. Every team in the NHL should have a team dog. It’s great for the locker room and the fan base.
