The Washington Capitals look to end their woes and turn their season around on this upcoming three game road trip. The first stop is against the Nashville Predators which is the second matchup between the two teams this season. The Caps won the first game at home 5-3 on Dec. 29, 2021.
The road has been much kinder to the Caps than things are at home. Washington is 14-5-4 away from Capital One Arena. The team held a practice before departing for Nashville. Vitek Vanecek and T.J. Oshie were not on the ice. Vanecek traveled with the team while Oshie did not.
Peter Laviolette returns to Nashville and is one win shy of his 700th career win. He would become the 10th coach in NHL history to reach 700. At 699 wins, Laviolette currently ranks third among active head coaches in wins, only trailing Barry Trotz (894) and Lindy Ruff (772). Tonight’s game marks Laviolette’s 1,317th game coached. Since he made his NHL coaching debut on Oct. 5, 2001, Laviolette ranks fourth in the NHL in games coached.
Alex Ovechkin enters tonight’s game with goals in two of his last three games against the Predators (three goals) and is currently on a four game point streak against Nashville with three goals and three assists. He’s been scoreless in his last six games and would love to get a couple tonight.
