The Washington Capitals will look to focus on the hockey and bounce back this afternoon against the Philadelphia Flyers after a 4-1 defeat to the New York Rangers on Thursday night. It is the third time this season Washington and Philadelphia have met and the Caps are 1-1-0 so far this season with each team winning on the road.

The last time they met the Caps prevailed 5-3 on Feb. 17 at the Wells Fargo Center. The Caps are on a five game winning streak in Philadelphia, the longest road winning streak against the Flyers in franchise history.

During this stretch, which began on March 7, 2019, Washington has outscored Philadelphia 37-23. John Carlson has led the Caps with 13 points during the streak with two goals and 11 assists. Ilya Samsonov is 6-0-0 in his career against the Flyers with a 2.42 goals against average and a .921 save percentage.

Carlson has points in five of his last six games with a goal and five assists. Carl Hagelin has seven points in his last eight games with a goal and six assists. Meanwhile rookie Joe Snively has two goals in his last three games.

Alex Ovechkin scored the lone Capitals goal the other night against the Rangers. Ovechkin is eighth in the NHL in points with 63 and fourth in the league in goals with 32. Carlson is tied for ninth in the NHL in points among defensemen with 40.

Evgeny Kuznetsov assisted on the Ovechkin goal the other night which was his team leading 34th apple of the season. He’s on pace for 52 assists this season which would be the third most in a season in his career, the most since his 56 in 2017-18 and the fourth time in his career he’d reach the 50 assist mark.
