The Washington Capitals will look to continue their winning ways on the road against Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. After scoring two goals in a 5-4 win over the Calgary Flames last night, Alex Ovechkin is just one goal away from passing Jaromir Jagr for third place on the NHL’s all time goal scoring list.

The Caps and Oilers meet for the second and final time this season. Washington dropped the first matchup 5-3 in D.C. on Feb. 2. The Capitals have earned points in eight of their last 11 games against the Oilers, compiling a 6-3-2 record dating back to Jan. 20, 2015.

In addition to Ovechkin, Conor Sheary also scored. They’re both on four game point streaks. Ovechkin is eighth in the NHL in points with 70 and fourth in goals with 36. The Caps are 8-5-2 in back to back sets this season and 3-3-1 in the second game including 2-3-0 following a win in the first game.

The Caps overcame a 2-0 deficit last night in Calgary in the first game of a three game Canada road trip. After the Flames retook the lead in the third, Anthony Mantha tied the game and Nic Dowd gave the Caps the lead. Ovechkin put it away with the Jagr equalizer with an empty net goal and nearly passed him to complete the hat trick with another one.

The Caps have a chance to match a season long four game winning streak with a win tonight. That came from Nov. 8-14. They’ll have a challenge against a fast and skilled Oilers team. Dowd told reporters after the game:

"“I think it’s important to just get on the plane, get to the hotel and get to bed. This is a really fast team [Wednesday], and they beat us last time we played them, and they also lost to Calgary [Monday] night. So they’re going to be a really hungry team in their building.”"
