We are one week away from the NHL Trade Deadline and interesting things should go down for the Washington Capitals. We’ve heard the rumors and rumblings around the organization. It’s now a matter of figuring out who could fit into the lineup and at what cost.

It’s very important the Caps get this right. The window is closing and if they get it wrong it could cost them dearly with another first round exit or worse. If they get it right we could be talking another Cup. That’s the goal.

So what kind of dream trades could we be talking about for the Capitals. I think the obvious are goaltender and forward with the team good at defense. Let’s start at forward. What I’d like to see them do is go after a forward that’s young in their mid to late 20’s that has speed. Someone to fill a void that Jakub Vrana left.

Nothing against Anthony Mantha but the two play very different styles. Mantha is more physical than Vrana is. But the Caps need a burst. They could go for someone like J.T. Miller, as they’ve been scouting the Vancouver Canucks. He turned 29 today and has 24 goals and 46 assists for 70 points.

Over at goaltending the dream scenario would be to bring back Braden Holtby. They couldn’t go wrong with Semyon Varlamov either. Both would be welcome reunions. It would make no sense to go after Marc-Andre Fleury as it seems like he doesn’t even want to come here.

Holtby is 10-10-1 with a 2.78 goals against average and a .913 save percentage with the Dallas Stars, a team the Caps have also scouted heavily. Varlamov is 4-12-1 with the New York Islanders with a 2.85 goals against average and a .912 save percentage.

light. Trending. Lars Eller is back in COVID protocol

Whatever the Caps do, hopefully they don’t give up too much. Don’t want another Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat fiasco.
