After a successful three game road trip that saw the Washington Capitals secure five out of a possible six points, the team returns home looking to build on their momentum at Capital One Arena. The Caps have won two straight at home and they also won the first matchup against the Isles 2-0 about two months ago on Long Island.

The Caps have also won each of their last four home games against the Islanders dating back to Jan. 26, 2021 of last season. Last year 19 of the 25 skaters the Capitals iced at home against the Isles recorded a point with John Carlson (two goals, three assists), Nicklas Backstrom (one goal, four assists), and Justin Schultz (one goal, four assists) each leading the team with five points.

The Caps have also shut out the Isles in three of the last four times the teams have met. In the first matchup this season, Vitek Vanecek recorded a 23 save shutout, his first of three on the season. In his career, Vanecek is 4-1-0 against the Islanders with two shutouts, a 1.53 goals against average and a .948 save percentage.

The Caps will be without Lars Eller as he remains in Vancouver in quarantine for COVID protocol. Connor McMichael centered the third line at Monday’s practice and Daniel Sprong was back in the lineup.
