The Washington Capitals will look to bounce back tonight against the Tampa Bay Lightning for the third and final time this season. The Caps are 0-1-1 with both games being decided by one goal. The Caps will look to end a two game losing streak where they came out with a complete dud.
The Lightning did not hold a morning skate today while the Capitals held an optional one at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Ilya Samsonov will get the start in goal. As for other lineup questions, head coach Peter Laviolette said his usual that they’re working through some things in the room.
After the optional skate Michal Kempny, Matt Irwin, and Axel Jonsson-Fjallby all stayed on the ice for extra work. Connor McMichael was not there but did skate before the optional with AJF. Something to keep an eye on.
The Lightning have 93 points just like the Boston Bruins which means both teams flip back and fourth in the first wild card spot. The Caps have an 11 point cushion over the New York Islanders for the final wild card spot.
