The Washington Capitals won a huge game in Pittsburgh by a final of 6-3. It came on a game winning goal from none other than Tom Wilson in the third period. After the game, the Capitals official twitter account was at the ready and did an ultimate troll on Penguins fans who despise Tom Wilson for some odd reason. ‘

First of all I don’t get why fans don’t like Tom Wilson. The man is good looking (not to be weird but ask female Caps fans), he can score goals on the top six, and can lay out viscous hits.

But I guess if you’re not a Caps fan, I sort of get it with all the controversy. But there was none from Wilson that afternoon in Pittsburgh. It was just a goal and then the big blow delivered by the Caps social media intern.

Caps Twitter was already well united before the game even started when a fan tweeted a pic of a Penguins fans customized Caps jersey (yes I kid you not) of number 43 with Trash on the back instead of Wilson.

When the final horn sounded and it was certain the Caps took down the Penguins, the Caps social media intern went in for the kill. They flipped that jersey for one that said Rent Free 43 on the back.

So true, bestie indeed. Wilson confirmed in a sideline interview with ESPN’s Emily Kaplan that he did see the picture on Twitter and he laughed. We all got the last laugh when he scored the game winning goal in the third period.

Wilson commented after the game on the hostile environment, which included a group of Pittsburgh fans in Crosby jerseys dressed as GOATs for reasons I don’t understand:

“You’re out on the road and playing in a loud building. That felt kind of like a playoff atmosphere. The rink was loud, there’s a lot of energy in there.”
