The Washington Capitals continue their road trip tonight against the Montreal Canadiens. They’ll be looking to bounce back from a 7-3 letdown to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Tonight is the third and final time they’ll face the Canadiens and they won the last two games by a combined score of 11-5.

The Caps have earned points in 18 of their last 19 games at the Bell Centre with a 16-1-2 record, a span the began on Nov. 28, 2009. That’s the highest points percentage of any team against Montreal in that building since 2009-10.

Vitek Vanecek will get the start tonight against the Canadiens. Many players have heated up. Alex Ovechkin has 14 goals in his last 19 games and ranks fourth in the NHL in goals with 46. Evgeny Kuznetsov has points in 17 of his last 19 games with eight goals and 14 assists. John Carlson is on a five game point streak with four goals and seven assists.

Carlson has recorded those seven assists in the last five games and is fifth among defensemen in points with 66 while tied for fourth with 15 goals and seventh in assists with 51.

This is Carlson’s best offensive stretch of the season and may very well put him back in the Norris Trophy conversation. He had a goal and an assist on Thursday night in Toronto. He’s now one goal shy of setting a personal high after reaching the 15 goal mark for the third time in his career.
