The Washington Capitals are back in the playoffs but before we get to that chase, the team is looking to gain good position in a tight Eastern Conference. They’ll continue their five game road trip tonight with their third stop coming against the Colorado Avalanche.

The Caps five game road trip is a season long as they’re 1-1-0 coming off a win over the Montreal Canadiens. The Caps also won the last matchup with the Avalanche 6-3 on Oct. 19, 2021 at Capital One Arena behind three point performances from Evgeny Kuznetsov (one goal, two assists) and Tom Wilson (three assists).

Alex Ovechkin has scored in six of his last 11 games against Colorado with six goals and five assists and has four multi point games during that stretch. T.J. Oshie has earned 28 points with nine goals and 19 assists in 32 career games against the Avs, tied for the fifth most he has against an NHL franchise.

Kuznetsov has recorded 19 points with seven goals and 12 assists in 11 career games against the Avalanche. Ovechkin is fourth in the NHL in goals with 47 while John Carlson is fifth among defensemen in points (67), tied for fourth in goals (15) and tied for seventh in assists (52).

Ovechkin has 15 goals in his last 20 games. Kuznetsov has points in 18 of his last 20 games with eight goals and 16 assists. Carlson is on a six game point and assist streak with four goals and eight assists. Lars Eller is on a four game point streak with three goals and four assists and a two game assist streak with three.

Thanks to the Toronto Maple Leafs defeating the New York Islanders last night the Capitals clinched a spot in the Stanley Cup playoffs for the eighth straight season. That’s the second longest active streak in the NHL behind only the Pittsburgh Penguins (16).
