#2 Alex Ovechkin

Alex Ovechkin continues to defy age and Father Time and is one goal away from passing Teemu Selanne for the most goals in NHL history in a season by a player age 36 or older. With 48 goals, the Capitals captain is two goals away from his ninth career 50 goal season which would tie Wayne Gretzky and Mike Bossy.

Over Ovechkin’s last 21 games, he has heated up with 16 goals. With his goal against the Avalanche on Monday night, Ovechkin now has double digit goals against 28 different franchises.

Ovechkin joined Joe Sakic, Brendan Shananhan and Marian Hossa as the only players in NHL history to accomplish this feat. On Friday night against the Arizona Coyotes, he has an opportunity to set an all time record with a goal (nine career goals).

The Caps are fortunate to have Ovechkin producing the way he has at this age. We all have a front row seat to the greatest goal scorer in NHL history. He has shown that he isn’t showing signs of slowing down anytime soon and he’s hungry for another ring.

With the season being mostly normal except for the COVID protocol, he is picking up where he left off pre pandemic.
