#3 First round curse

Ever since the Capitals have lifted the Stanley Cup in 2018, they have been suffering through first round exits. First it came against the Carolina Hurricanes in 2019 in a Game 7 that could’ve gone either way. Then it was a five game bounce in two straight years. The first was in the 2020 bubble against the New York Islanders that led to the firing of Todd Reirden. The second came last season against the Boston Bruins.

Needless to say, the Caps are due but it’ll be an uphill battle. The Cup has since been awarded to the St. Louis Blues and the Tampa Bay Lightning twice in the last two years. The Panthers are looking to dethrone the Bolts while looking to keep the Cup on their side of the sunshine state.

Maybe it came from damaging the Cup in their Stanley Cup bender but the D.C. troll is alive and well throughout the city. The Wizards have missed the playoffs. The Commanders not only missed the playoffs too but have new scandals all the time. The Nationals traded everybody and the Lerner’s are looking to sell. That means the Caps are all we got left.

If they are to get past the first round, cool. That might be just as sweet as it was when they finally got past the second round.
