The biggest decision this offseason for Washington Capitals General Manager Brian MacLellan rests in the goaltending department.

He will have to decide between two restricted free agents in Ilya Samsonov and Vitek Vanecek. Only one will likely be with the team when the dust settles and the question everyone asking is who?

The other question we all have is what kind of veteran goaltenders are out there on the market in case management still doesn’t feel comfortable going with Samsonov or Vanecek as the opening night starter.

That’s what this article will take a look at. If you missed the other free agents that are forwards and defenseman you can catch up on that here.

#3 Darcy Kuemper

Darcy Kuemper had a good regular season and has a solid resume over the course of his career. In the regular season with the Colorado Avalanche, the 32 year old went 37-12-4 with a 2.54 goals against average and a .921 save percentage.

So far in the playoffs, where the Avalanche have a chance to go to the Stanley Cup Finals with a win tonight over the Edmonton Oilers, Kuemper is 6-2 with a 2.65 goals against average and a .897 save percentage.

The Avalanche are my pick to win the Stanley Cup. If the Caps bring him on, they got a goaltender with recent experience of playoff success.
