#1 Thomas Greiss

Thomas Greiss is another veteran free agent available. He spent the last two seasons with the Detroit Red Wings. Last season he went 10-15-1 with a 3.66 goals against average and a .891 save percentage.

That was kind of a down season and now the unrestricted free agent could certainly use a change in scenery.

It was a major down season but you have to remember too that he also was playing for a Red Wings team looking to rebuild and return to the glory days when they dominated the entire NHL.

The 36 year old has also seen stops with he New York Islanders, Phoenix Coyotes (or Arizona), the Pittsburgh Penguins and the San Jose Sharks.

This might be the move to make if you’re comfortable having Vitek Vanecek or Ilya Samsonov start in goal. Greiss can serve as a valuable backup and even show one of those young goaltenders the ropes, something the Caps hoped to have had with Henrik Lundqvist until heart surgery kept him from playing.
