You can now officially say that Washington Capitals star Alex Ovechkin is a multi sport athlete. Yesterday he signed a one day contract with FC Dynamo Moscow and in a friendly against FC Amkal on Saturday, Ovechkin scored in true Ovi like fashion.

Ovechkin’s goal in the Russian Premier League match came as he was driving towards the net in an area similar to the office. Off a pass, Ovechkin blasted the shot and it trickled right through the net in the right corner. He, of course, celebrated like he always does.

Ovechkin played the striker position and traded his number eight for the number three.

Ovechkin said in a Russian interview with sports.ru, translated by Google:

"“Well, the dream came true – to score a goal. There was one more moment, it was necessary to beat, but I tried to find Smolov. I must give credit that the guys found me in that position, under the left leg. Well, I got it.”"

Dynamo would go on to get a shutout 5-0. Ovechkin wore the number three in honor of his father Mikhail. Ovi’s goal was the only goal scored in the first half.

Ovechkin is no stranger to the game of soccer. He is a part owner of the Washington Spirit, who won the NWSL championship last season. He also went to the FIFA World Cup in Russia during his weekend with the Stanley Cup in 2018.

Ovechkin is coming off a 50 goal season and seeing him on the pitch is an encouraging sign after he ended the regular season with an injury. He suited up for the playoffs and might’ve played through something but at least he seems OK now. Otherwise he wouldn’t be playing in a soccer match.

light. Must Read. Every individual award winner in Washington Capitals history

We’d love to see more sport crossovers like this. Maybe someone should try and play baseball.
