After looking at the three worst draft picks in Washington Capitals history we now look at the top 3 best players that were originally drafted by the team.

Honestly you could say this list was harder than easier. Or you could say it was easy depending on what side you look at it. I say it was slightly harder because there was so many players to choose from and we could only narrow it down to three so that means there may be a player or two missing and that player could be your favorite.

But anyway that’s what’s fun about these lists. Let’s begin.

#3 Olaf Kolzig

Before there was a two headed monster of Ilya Samsonov and Vitek Vanecek, before there was Braden Holtby, there was Godzilla. Olaf Kolzig was drafted in the first round at 19th overall in the 1989 NHL Draft. He would backstop the Capitals to their first Stanley Cup Finals appearance and a couple seasons later take home a Vezina Trophy.

That Vezina Trophy winning season took place in the 1999-00 season where he went 41-20-11 with a 2.24 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. Kolzig spent 16 seasons with the Caps posting a 301-293-86 record with a 2.70 goals against average and a .906 save percentage.
