The 2022 NHL Draft is beginning this Thursday with Round 1 and ends on Friday with Rounds 2-7. Here’s how to watch this year’s NHL Draft as well as what the Washington Capitals could potentially do with the 20th pick.

The Caps first round selection will be at 20th overall. There’s a lot they can do with the 20th overall pick but the most important thing they need to do is address the center position as Nicklas Backstrom faces the dreaded unknown.

Let’s face it, the Caps aren’t getting any younger. Alex Ovechkin will be 37 in September. T.J. Oshie will turn 36 in December. John Carlson will turn 32 in January. The Caps will gun for the best available player in all six of their selections.

In the past they seemed to get it right. Martin Fehervary has a promising future with 17 points last season with eight goals and nine assists in 79 games. Connor McMichael had 16 points with eight goals and eight assists in 68 games.

The Caps have made a total of 15 picks in their last three years. Center Hendrix Lapierre and defenseman Vincent Iorio are top prospects that were the Caps first selections in the last two drafts.

This year in our annual mock draft we went with center Frank Nazar with the 20th pick in the draft. He’s five foot 10 and 180 pounds and is the speedy, explosive, complete, center the Capitals need for the future whether Backstrom retires sooner or later.
