The 2022 NHL Draft kicks off tonight with the first round at 7 p.m. from the Belle Centre in Montreal. The Washington Capitals will have the 20th pick.

The rest of the draft will take place tomorrow at 11 a.m. with Rounds 2-7. You can catch that on both NHL Network and ESPN plus.

The Caps hold six picks in the NHL Draft. In addition to their first round pick at 20th overall, the Caps will also pick in Round 2 at 46th overall, Round 3 at 85th overall, Round 5 at 149th overall, Round 6 at 181st overall, and Round 7 at 213th overall.

If I were General Manager Brian MacLellan I would go with a center at the 20th pick in the NHL Draft. In our annual mock draft slideshow featuring our predictions for every Caps pick, I went with Frank Nazar in the first round.

MacLellan and assistant general manager Ross Mahoney held court with the media yesterday. Mahoney said this on their approach to the 20th pick via Mike Vogel of WashingtonCaps.com:

"“There’s actually four or five guys we have a lot of interest in, and they kind of vary in position. Some of them are forwards and some of them are defensemen. But we feel it’s a really good spot to be in, and an opportunity to get a really good young player to add to our system.”"
