Breaking down 2022-23 Capitals schedule

The NHL has released the regular season schedule. The Washington Capitals will open the 2022-23 season on Wednesday Oct. 12 against the Boston Bruins at Capital One Arena. The next day they will travel to take on the Toronto Maple Leafs. So a back to back right off the bat to begin the season.

The Caps have six homesteads of at least three games on the schedule with their longest homestand being four games from Nov. 5 to Nov. 11. The Caps will also have six stretches of at least three consecutive road games including a season long six game road trip from Nov. 26 to Dec. 7. The Caps will have a total of 11 back to back games.

18 of the Caps 41 home games will fall on weekends. That includes six games on Friday, nine on Saturday and three on Sunday. There will be holiday home games including Veteran’s Day on Nov. 11 vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning, the day before Thanksgiving on Nov. 23 vs. the Philadelphia Flyers, the day after Thanksgiving aka Black Friday on Nov. 25 vs. the Calgary Flames.

Other holiday home games include New Years Eve on Dec. 31 vs. the Montreal Canadiens, Super Bowl Sunday on Feb. 12 vs. the San Jose Sharks. Valentine’s Day on Feb. 14 vs. the Carolina Hurricanes and St. Patrick’s Day on March 17 vs. the St. Louis Blues. This will mark the 16th time in the last 17 seasons and the 15th consecutive season the Capitals will host a game on Super Bowl Sunday.

The 2023 NHL All Star Weekend, presented by Honda, will take place on Feb. 3-4 at FLA Live Arena in Sunrise, Florida. The Caps will also have a five day bye week from Feb. 6-10.

The 2023 Stadium Series features your Capitals against the Carolina Hurricanes down in Raleigh on Saturday Feb. 18 at Carter Finley Stadium. The Caps are 3-0-0 in outdoor games including a 5-2 victory vs. the Maple Leafs at Navy Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland in the 2018 Stadium Series.

The schedule will be pretty normal with the season concluding on April 13 against the New Jersey Devils. Here’s hoping the Caps are ready for what is sure to be a big season ahead.
