With the 85th pick in the NHL Draft the Washington Capitals used their second third round selection to take Ludwig Persson, another forward. He is 18 years old and listed as six foot and 185 pounds.

There were some good quotes about him from Elite Prospects. EPR Rinkside said:

"A speedy winger with good hands, Persson plays with intensity and works hard every shift. His skating stands out."

Anders Eriksen added:

"A speedy player who is very good at challenging his opponents in high speed. Scores plenty of goals. Has an excellent release."

With Frolunda HC J20 on the J20 Nationell he recorded 25 goals and 36 assists for 61 points in 41 games. He also skated in 10 games with the Frolunda HC of the SHL. In three games with the Sweden U19 team he had four goals and one assist for five points. In three games with Sweden U20 he had a gaol.

This upcoming season he is expected to play for BIK Karlskoga on a loan for Hockey Allsvenskan.

The Caps used their 149th pick in the fifth round to select Jake Karabela and their sixth round pick at 181st overall to select Ryan Hofer. They have one more pick in the seventh round at 213th overall. Those two picks they took are forwards and we’ll have more on those later.

Logan Horn said this about Persson in his draft profile for The Hockey Writers:

"Though his skating and top speed are impressive, Persson’s acceleration is so good that it even looks impressive in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL). His ability to go from a standstill to an all-out sprint is very valuable and is what makes him such an effective offensive player on the rush. He also has a good wrist shot and good instincts for finding open space in the offensive zone."
