It’s the part of summer where things get boring and everyone is sick of the heat and ready for the fall. Whether you’re a Washington Capitals fan or a lover of Halloween, fall will be here before you know it.

But how do we pass the time between now and the drop of the puck? Granted there’s got to be a few things we could do right?

That’s what this post will focus on, things we could do to kill time before the hockey season. We’ll look at the top 3 things you can do for the remainder of the offseason.

#3 Watch soccer

Looking for a sport to watch but too depressed to watch baseball after the Washington Nationals traded Juan Soto? Look no further than D.C. United who are now led by Wayne Rooney at head coach.

In Rooney’s coaching debut the Black and Red won in thrilling fashion in stoppage time over Orlando SC. They recently played to a scoreless draw at home against the New York Red Bulls. They take on LAFC one week from tonight out west.

The most exciting player to watch on D.C. United is Taxi Fountas who has scored 11 goals and added three assists in his first 16 MLS matches.

#2 Get active

Workout, run, walk, swim, ride your bike, lift weights, do push ups, and get active. If the Caps players will be getting in shape in time for training camp so should we. After all why not train like a pro.

Everybody is training to get back including Tom Wilson. Wilson had to undergo knee surgery that’s going to keep him out for at least the first few months of the 2022-23 season.

Wilson’s recovery footage included video of him in a swimming pool working on the speed, and strength in his leg trying to get his range of motion back.

In another video, Wilson was shown getting worked on by a physical therapist. He tagged Matt Nichols who runs the annual Bio Steel Camp every summer and wrote “On the road”.

Wilson tore his ACL in his left knee when he was trying to make a hit in Game 1 of the Capitals first round playoff series against the Florida Panthers. It was right after he scored a goal too.

Wilson tried to come back during the playoffs but he ultimately couldn’t so now his goal is to get back around Thanksgiving at the earliest. Wilson underwent surgery in the torn ligament in late May.

#1 Play NHL

The number one thing to do to wait for hockey season is to play a hockey video game, specifically your favorite NHL game. In my case I play NHL 21 with Alex Ovechkin on the cover.

There is still more information to be revealed as we await for the October release of NHL 23 by EA Sports. NHL 22 featured Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs on the cover.

One feature of NHL 22 was an Augmented Reality Broadcast where you can get the info you need without taking your eyes off the ie as key game stats are projected onto physical surfaces in the game via an augmented reality like visual package.

It’s everything you need to know right in front of you. Plus every time you execute a highlight reel play, a 3D graphic will project over your player to pump you up and demoralize your opponent.

light. More. What is next to address for the Capitals this offseason?

The game also features player facial expressions which inlcudes overhauled player likenesses, eye movement animation and shaders for hair and skin make the players look and act more realistic all throughout the ice.
