Best players to keep an eye on at Capitals Rookie Camp

Many Washington Capitals prospects are participating in this year’s Rookie Camp at MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia.

Many of you have checked it out already and some of you are coming tomorrow or Monday. If that’s the case here are the players to watch on the ice.

Hendrix Lapierre: He is the number one prospect and the Capitals first round choice at 22nd overall in the 2020 NHL Draft. The Caps actually traded up for him. He appeared in six games last season making his NHL debut and scoring his first career goal on opening night against the New York Rangers on Oct. 13. He was the first Caps rookie since 2014-15 to make his NHL debut at the age of 19 and the fifth youngest player to score in his debut.

Vincent Iorio: The Caps selected him in the second round at 55th overall in 2021. He established WHL career highs in goals, assists and points in 2021-22 with 44. That includes 11 goals and 33 assists in 60 games with the Brandon Wheat Kings.

Bear Hughes: He led the Spokane Chiefs of the WHL in goals, assists and points last season, recording 67 with 24 goals and 43 assists in 64 games. Named team captain in January, Hughes also led the Chiefs in power play assists with 24 and tied for the team lead in power play goals with seven and game winning goals with five.

Dru Krebs: A sixth round selection at 176th overall in 2021 recorded career highs in goals with four, assists with 15 and points with 19 in 66 games with the WHL’s Medicine Hat Tigers. The Okotoks, Alberta native recorded two multi point games including a two goal game vs. Edmonton on Feb. 12.

Jake Karabela: The 18 year old appeared in 68 games with the Guelph Storm of the OHL last season recording 45 points with 12 goals and 33 assists. The five foot 11, 172 pound forward ranked third on the team in assists, fourth in points, and tied for third in plus minus with a plus 14. He also recorded four points with two goals and two assists in five OHL playoff games.

Martin Has: He spent last season with the Shawinigan Cataractes of the QMJHL recording 20 points with eight goals and 12 assists in 57 games. In addition, he led all Shawinigan defensemen in power play goals with five and ranked second in shots on goal with 92. He helped lead his team to a President Cup Championship. He recorded six points with two goals and four assists in 16 postseason games.
