Capitals make terrible mistake of getting rid of the organ

The organ, played by Bruce Anderson, has been a staple at Washington Capitals games for the last 22 seasons. But this season there won’t be an organ and as a result Bruce was let go.

But there were no hard feelings from the longtime Caps organist. Times are just changing and unfortunately modern technology has the edge.

The Caps had a new entertainment crew this past season and there was noticeably less organ playing. Thankfully they made up for this with some new twists. That included the crowd singing along to Mr. Brightside.

I get that the Caps are trying to cut costs but I highly doubt an organ player takes up a big chunk of the budget. There are others who deserve to be let go more.

Bruce shared the following on his Twitter account:

“Found out today that the @Capitals will no longer be using the organ for Caps games. I’ve had a great ride for 22 years- a Stanley Cup Ring -an Emmy – A Winter Classic and lots of great memories with friends. Thanks Caps fans for your support through the years!”

One fellow reader, Mick Nesevitch summed it all up best:

“Oof. Won’t be long and the fans and athletes are the only humans in the arena. Computers will kill every tradition and atmosphere that makes these events special. Thanks for the 22 years Bruce Anderson!”

Caps games will definitely have a much different feel without the organ. But if you want to, you can still imagine the organ playing as you’re riding the metro on the way to Capital One Arena.

Sometimes little things like that can keep traditions alive. Kind of like why I still sing the old fight song instead of the new fight song when it comes to the local football team. All of us at Stars and Sticks wish you the best in your next endeavor, Bruce!
