T.J. Oshie is day to day, so is Dmitry Orlov

After a win over the Detroit Red Wings, the Washington Capitals returned to the ice at MedStar Capitals Iceplex for a practice on Thursday. T.J. Oshie and Dmitry Orlov were not on the ice for practice.

Oshie wasn’t on the ice for a reason. In the second period of last night’s game, Oshie left after taking a hit to the boards. He went down the tunnel and it wasn’t pretty.

Oshie was diagnosed with an upper body injury. Dmitry Orlov, despite finishing the game, got banged up and suffered a lower body injury. Both are day to day.

Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette updated the media after practice. He didn’t say too much. Orlov took a maintenance day and the team will see how he is tomorrow to determine his status for Saturday’s preseason finale against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Oshie will probably not play in the preseason finale. Laviolette said his famous line of “we’re working through some things in the room” which he hates just as much as we do.

Day to day could mean many things at this point. We all thought Tom Wilson was day to day but we know that turned out to be a torn ACL and now he’s still out for quite some time.

If that’s the case for Oshie that’s a big blow to the Capitals and a big blow to T.J. himself. Oshie missed significant time last season and even though he’s getting up there in age a healthy Oshie is quite dangerous.

More. Capitals down Red Wings. light

But alas this is the reality of the situation. The Caps have to work through some things in the room to set their lineup for the final game of the preseason which takes place on Saturday night at 7 p.m. against the Columbus Blue Jackets on NBC Sports Washington.
