The Washington Capitals have won a game. We’re back baby. The Caps got a 3-1 win last night over the Montreal Canadiens behind goals from three different players and a 21 save performance from Darcy Kuemper for his first win with his new team.

The first period was scoreless as the Caps outshot the Habs 12-8. Alex Ovechkin thought he finally got his first goal of the season but it was taken away due to offsides. Wayne Gretzky struck again.

Nick Suzuki put the Canadiens up 1-0 at 2:01 but that would be all they scored and the only time the Caps trailed as they answered with three unanswered goals.

The Caps tied it at 9:02 on a bang bang play from Trevor van Riemsdyk, to Nick Jensen who found Conor Sheary in front of the net. That was Sheary’s second goal of the season.

At 11:43 of the second period Anthony Mantha joined in on the fun. It was Mantha’s second goal of the season off a good shot in front of the net. Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie had the assists.

The Caps entered the game 0 for 9 on the power play but that dry spell ended at 15:20 thanks to Oshie, who got his first goal of the season. Ovechkin and Dylan Strome had the assists.

Oshie had a good lookin front of the net with a rebound off the goalie’s blockers and followed his own shot as the arena sang along to Country Roads.

3-1 was the score after two. The Caps outshot the Habs 14-5 in the second period.

In the third the Caps shut down the Habs to preserve the 3-1 win. The Caps were outshot 9-3 but Kuemper was lights out. The Caps outshot the Canadiens 29-22 overall.
