Capitals fantasy value picks vs Canucks
The Washington Capitals take on the Vancouver Canucks tonight at 7 p.m. To learn more about how to watch it plus the betting odds click the link toward the bottom of the article. If you’re playing fantasy hockey read on to find out the best Capitals players to start.
One player to put in your lineup is Alex Ovechkin. Although he hasn’t scored in his first three games of the season, he’s due for one tonight.
He nearly had two goals the other night against the Montreal Canadiens. He thought he scored but Aliaksei Protas was called for offsides. Then he hit the post late in the game on an empty net attempt. He’s definitely hungry for one tonight.
The last time Ovechkin didn’t score a goal in the first three games was the 2013 lockout shortened season. Then Ovi got hot and his fire carried him all the way to the Hart Trophy.
Anthony Mantha is another good player to start. He’s got two goals in the first three games showing his new dad strength. The Caps needed a big season from him and this was the start that they needed.
Finally another player you need to start is T.J. Oshie, who scored his first goal of the season on Saturday night to help give the Caps their first win of the season.
Don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what Chris Morgan of Yahoo Sports said about the Oshbabe:
T.J. Oshie, WAS vs. VAN ($18): Oshie is something of a power-play specialist. In each of the previous five seasons he’s averaged at least 3:05 with the extra man, and he’s a lock for double-digit power-play points per season (even though he’s also a lock to miss a decent chunk of time). Through three games he’s averaged 5:05 on the power play, and the Canucks have the 31st-ranked penalty kill since the start of last season.
Finally here’s what Sean Allen of ESPN said on Oshie:
T.J. Oshie, W, Washington Capitals (48.1%): The Capitals are still tinkering to find their scoring line. While Oshie started the season on the third line, he spent the last game on a unit with Evgeny Kuznetsov and Anthony Mantha. Most importantly, however, he trails only Alex Ovechkin and Kuznetsov for power-play minutes.
