The Washington Capitals fell to to the Dallas Stars 2-0 on the road in a game we’d all like to forget about.

Jason Robertson put the Stars up 1-0 at 16:50. 1-0 was the score after one with shots 13-7 in favor of the Stars.

The second period was scoreless as the Caps led in shots 8-6.

In the third the Caps outshot the Stars 12-8 and shots were even at 27 apiece overall. At 10:54 Joel Kiviranta put the game away with a shorthanded goal. This came after Roope Hintz was called for interference against T.J. Oshie, putting the Caps on a power play that backfired.

The last time the Caps were shutout was back in January of last season in a 1-0 loss to the Vegas Golden Knights. A slow start tonight doomed the Caps and they could never recover.

The shorthanded goal came off a bad turnover in their own zone. It was a sloppy play and who else but to turn the puck over and get it stripped away from who else but John Carlson. Stars goalie Jake Oettinger made 27 saves in the Dallas Victory. Darcy Kuemper made 25 saves in the loss.

Capitals head coach Peter Laviolette said after the game:

"“It was tight. Chances were low both ways. Just wasn’t a lot of opportunity out there. We had a couple shifts in the second period where we were caught playing too much defense, and it kept us in our end and hemmed us in a little.”"

Caps center Dylan Strome added:

"“Just couldn’t find one. I thought we did some good things after the first and shut them down pretty well but couldn’t find a way to capitalize. A couple good looks on the power play but just couldn’t cash in tonight. [Oettinger] played well, and they played well as a team tonight.”"
