The Washington Capitals take on the Edmonton Oilers tonight in what should be a high octane offensive showdown.

Sean Allen of ESPN.com said this about tonight’s matchup:

This matchup has the most exciting scorers on both sides of the puck, with Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl taking on Alex Ovechkin — a group that makes up three of the top four goal scorers since the 2018-19 season. Both teams are coming off multiple losses, with the Oilers dropping two in a row and the Caps four. John Carlson was on the ice before practice on Sunday and is eligible to return, but is more likely to miss his fifth game with a lower-body injury.

Carlson will indeed be OUT tonight even though he was a full participant at today’s optional morning skate at MedStar Capitals Iceplex. Without further ado, here are your Capitals fantasy value picks for tonight’s game.

Alex Ovechkin: Well duh. Of course Alex Ovechkin is a player to start. He gets up for these kinds of matchups and after becoming the top goal scorer with one franchise he has his sights set on becoming the number one NHL goal scorer of all time. But first he has to slide into number two and he’s 15 goals away from passing Gordie Howe for that spot.

Charlie Lindgren: He was the first goalie off the ice meaning he will get the start in goal tonight. He’s 1-1-1 with a 3.03 goals against average and a .919 save percentage. His last start came on Nov. 1 against the Vegas Golden Knights where he made 28 saves on 31 shots.

Nick Jensen: With Carlson out and Dmitry Orlov (lower body) a game time decision, Nick Jensen is the defenseman to watch and have in fantasy tonight. He has recorded seven points with one goal and six assists in 13 games this season, ranking tied for third on the Caps.

Nicolas Aube-Kubel: The newest player claimed off waivers over the weekend makes his Capitals debut tonight. He appeared in six games with the Toronto Maple Leafs this season. Last season he recorded a career high 23 points with 11 goals and 12 assists in 74 games with the Philadelphia Flyers and Colorado Avalanche.
