The four game losing streak for the Washington Capitals is officially over. They hung on in the third period unlike the previous game for a 5-4 win over the Edmonton Oilers which featured plenty of scoring from both sides.

The Caps struck first at 18:15 of the opening period as Dylan Strome stripped the puck away near the boards and took it to the house.

1-0 was the score after one with the Caps leading in shots 10-9.

Strome struck again 26 seconds into the second period as Evgeny Kuznetsov fed a pass to him while he was in front of the net. Erik Gustafsson had the secondary assist and the goal came on the power play for his fourth goal of the season.

Connor McDavid put the Oilers on the board at 8:33 with a sick curl and drag type goal.

At 12:25 the Caps struck again on the power play as Gustafsson found Strome who passed across to Kuznetsov for his first goal of the season.

Ryan Nugent Hopkins pulled the Oilers to within one at 14:10.

The Caps would score once again on the power play on an Alex Ovechkin shot from the office. On that sequence Kuznetsov won the face off battle and Gustafsson fed the puck to Ovi. It was his eighth goal of the season and 788th of his career.

4-2 was the score after 40 with the Caps leading in shots 14-6 in the second period.

The third period was nerve wracking as the Caps didn’t want a repeat of Saturday’s performance. Leon Draisaitl made it a 4-3 game at 2:54.

Kuznetsov scored his second goal of the night on the power play and it was set up by a sweet Ovechkin pass through the legs at 18:09. It was an important insurance goal.

Nugent Hopkins would score at 18:54 but those two goals from both Kuznetsov and Strome would prove to be the difference. A goal from Ovechkin was the cherry on top.
