Grading Capitals offense against Oilers
The Washington Capitals defeated the Edmonton Oilers 5-4 last night at Capital One Arena. The five goals gave fans around the DMV 50 percent off Papa Johns. Who doesn’t love pizza?
On a more serious note it’s time to grade the Capitals offense that was completely outstanding last night.
Dylan Strome had two goals. One at five on five and the other on the power play. Evgeny Kuznetsov had a four point night with all of those points occurring on the power play with two goals and two assists.
Alex Ovechkin also had a goal on the power play from his office. In all the Caps went four for five on the power play. That is easily their best power play game of the season.
The Caps also did a good job staying out of the box as they only had one penalty and they killed off that lone Oilers power play. Charlie Lindgren made 25 saves.
Back to the offense. It was the most goals the Caps scored since their 6-3 win over the New Jersey Devils a couple weeks ago.
The power play started off the season badly but Monday’s effort showed they found their rhythm. The Caps are now ranked within the top 10 of the power play.
In fact the Caps are ranked sixth with a success rate of 27.1 percent.
Grade A+: The Capitals offense was on fire last night because their star players were exactly that, star players. Evgeny Kuznetsov finally got out of his goal scoring slump. Alex Ovechkin not only scored a goal but had the sickest assist on Kuznetsov’s second goal of the game.
Overall this was a really good effort by the Capitals in a game that they had to win. Now they’ll look to continue the momentum against the Pittsburgh Penguins tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. on TNT.
