One Washington Capitals player to keep an eye on tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins is Dylan Strome.
Strome is on a four game point streak after recording an assist on Tuesday night against the Colorado Avalanche. He has three goals and two assists in that stretch.
It marked Strome’s seventh point streak of four or more games in his career. Strome is two games shy of tying his career long six game point streak that he accomplished twice with the Chicago Blackhawks. Those happened March 3 to March 12, 2022 with seven goals and four assists for 11 points and March 19-28, 2022 where he had three goals and six assists for nine points.
Strome’s 25 assists this season rank second on he Capitals and his 36 points rank third. 16 of Strome’s 25 assists have been primary assists. That’s 64.0 percent and the second highest rate among the team.
Strome’s eight multi point games are the second most on Washington. He’s tied with Evgeny Kuznetsov with that number while Alex Ovechkin has 15. His 14 power play points are the third most on the team with three goals and 11 assists.
In his career against the Pittsburgh Penguins he has one goal in seven games. With more games against the Penguins with his new team, he should make an impact in tonight’s game and beyond.
The Caps have every reason to keep Strome around beyond this season. He’s been strong and reliable and he has proven himself. The Caps aren’t in too much trouble as far as cap space goes so re signing him shouldn’t be an issue.
But when you look at most of the defenseman except for John Carlson on expiring contracts there will be some tough decisions that will have to be made.
But regardless Strome will be looking for a pay raise next season and could command up to an average annual value of five million.
