The Washington Capitals have lost five in a row but it appears they are getting Alex Ovechkin back, who was absent in all five of those games. Tonight is the first of two meetings between the Caps and Anaheim Ducks this season while the teams will conclude it on March 1 in Anaheim.
Last season the teams split the season series 1-0-1 with the Caps winning the most recent matchup 4-3 in a shootout on Dec. 6, 2021 at Capital One Arena. The Caps have earned at least one point in four straight games against the Ducks, going 3-0-1 dating back to the 2019-20 season.
In the Caps latest setback which was a 3-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings, the Caps lost Anthony Mantha due to an upper body injury. Today the team placed him on injured reserve hurting the team’s chances of dealing him for some value at the deadline. Charlie Lindgren will get the start in goal.
