The Washington Capitals will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2014 which means it’s time to look ahead to the offseason. So today I figured since we are all mourning the loss of a season that could’ve had potential had everybody stayed healthy, let’s have a little fun. I figured since the Evgeny Kuznetsov trade rumors started heating back up, imagine some ridiculous trade proposals.

Before we begin I want to make one disclaimer. The chances of any of these trades happening are slim to none. I’ll have a more serious 3 trade proposals in the coming days but for now just kick back and laugh. This is just for fun.

#3 Evgeny Kuznetsov for Jack Eichel

If you read my 3 possible trade destinations for Evgeny Kuznetsov, you may remember that I put the Vegas Golden Knights as the number one spot. While I still stand by that, imagine if the Caps went for the home run and went for Jack Eichel in a clean center swap.

The reason why this trade probably won’t work is not necessarily his no move clause, but the fact that I don’t see the Caps swapping a guy with a $7.8 million cap hit for a guy with a $10 million cap hit. Eichel has 27 goals this season.

#2 Evgeny Kuznetsov for Elias Lindholm

I don’t see this trade happening either but like I said this is all for fun. But out of the three this is probably the most realistic one to happen over Kuzy for Eichel and the next one we’ll mention.

Elias Lindholm of the Calgary Flames is two years but he made his NHL debut the same season, in 2013-14. He started with the Carolina Hurricanes. He just missed their arrival back to the playoff mix.

With the Flames this season he has 21 goals and 42 assists for 63 points. This could be a bargain move for the Caps. As we mentioned, Kuznetsov has that 7.8 million cap hit. Lindholm has a $4.85 million cap hit. If the Caps were to execute this trade it would be a bargain for them.

The Flames are just two points behind the Winnipeg Jets for the second and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. Kuzy could be a missing piece for a team on the up and up. They’re just a year or two away in my opinion.

#1 Evgeny Kuznetsov for Sidney Crosby

Let’s be honest, this will never happen. And I hope it doesn’t. But let’s say if it did. I have no idea how both fan bases of the Washington Capitals or Pittsburgh Penguins would handle it. But we’d take Sidney Crosby coming here over Alex Ovechkin going there wouldn’t we?

The guys on the Empty Netters podcast imagined a scenario where Ovechkin went to Pittsburgh or if Ovechkin and Crosby played on the same team so this inspired me to imagine Crosby coming here.

Now this wouldn’t cost the Caps too much money like it would on the first slide as Crosby’s cap hit is $8.7 million kind of like his jersey number 87. But we all know Crosby is better than Kuznetsov. At the same time, we know Ovechkin is better than Crosby. But that doesn’t mean Crosby isn’t a beast.

He is. And this game won’t be the same without him or Ovechkin. Like him or hate him, you can’t deny that. Anyway those are our 3 completely insane Kuznetsov trade proposals. Told you they were insane.
